The Kurayoshi Pure Malt Whisky Sherry Cask is a boutique Japanese whisky produced by the Matsui distillery. Located in Tottori, a coastal prefecture on southern Honshu, the whiskies produced by the Matsui distillery are characterised by ageing with the pure underground waters of Daisen Mountains. The sweet fruit and chocolate aroma displayed by this Kurayoshi Pure Malt Whisky is generated by allowing it to age in sherry casks for more than 3 years. A balance of sweetness and acidity spreads all over the mouth when enjoying this elegant Japanese whisky.
This Japanese whisky is the second of the two Sherry-influenced Malts in the Kurayoshi portfolio. But this one is younger — ageing approximately three years before finishing in Sherry casks. The best fact about this whisky is it’s a 100% malted barley whisky, sourced from distilleries around Scotland, before making their way to Japan, where it is blended with Japanese Whisky, aged and cut to proof with the legendary volcanic stone filtered waters of Tottori Prefecture. This means that the flavour profile is very similar to its older sibling, but with the brighter, more youthful zest that you would expect in this age-range. This brings out more herbal and citrus notes while maintaining a nice complexity. The real surprise is how well it pairs with food. Think of it like a “white Wine of Whisky” and enjoy.
Colour: Amber
Nose: A scent like a dry grass, dried from the back of a faint Sherry aroma, feels a tingling stimulus. Sherry incense became weaker over time, young malt incense, rebounding new pots dominate. Sherry incense also has a fake life.
Palate: Feel the watery mouthfeel, roughness to irritate and irritate the mouth. Like fragrance, lemon grass, new potted malt flavour, cold flavour like baked bread.
Finish: Bittersweetness will remain after the finish.
