The bottler is Douglas Laing an independent bottler of fine Scotch whisky established in 1948. The concept is to enable whisky lovers around the world a chance to come s close as they can to sampling whisky as it was straight from the cask or having a whisky experience like no other.
This bottling is taken from their range of ‘remarkable regional malts’ which is a series of malt whiskies created to take the whisky connoisseur on a journey of the whisky regions of Scotland. Big Peat from Islay, The Epicurean from the Lowlands, Rock Oyster from the country’s islands, Scallywag from Speyside and Timorous Beastie from the Highlands.
The Gauldrons (meaning ‘bay of the storms’) is a blended malt which consists of whisky from the Campbeltown region. Bottled at 46.2% abv and it has no colouring or chill-filtration. Each batch is currently numbered to show the whisky drinker the change in cask maturation over time.
Nose: Sweet cereals mix with soft peat smoke and some sea spray.
Palate: Salted creamy caramel, gentle oak and plenty of coastal flavours. Smoked grains and golden syrup.
Finish: More sea salt which balances with vanilla spice and smouldering oak.
