Ben Nevis Distillery is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The distillery is nestled at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, which has a summit elevation of 4’406 feet above sea level giving its malt a renowned name ‘the dew of Ben Nevis’ . This imposing mountain provides an impressive background to a traditional Scottish craft. The distillery was founded by ‘Long John’ Macdonald (no he was not a pirate) in 1825 and in 1848 in a cunning way of promotion presented a cask to Queen Victoria when she visited Fort William. They produce both malt and grain whiskies simultaneously due to installation in 1955 of a special still.
This product was added to the Ben Nevis range after some of their potential customers felt that the“Supreme Selection” blend was “too smooth”. This blend was created with those people in mind. While not carrying an age statement on the label but I can tell you that some of the malts used in this product are over 5 years old.
Nose: A rich fragrant blended malt, smoke, honey and spice.
Taste: Toffee and caramels, slightly peaty with a touch of oak.
Finish: Long with toffee sweetness and balanced oak.
