Hunter Laing is more well known as an independent bottler and have many different brands which are becoming more known in the whisky industry. These include Old Malt Cask, Old & Rare, Hepburn’s Choice, John Player Special, Highland Journey, House Of Peers and Sovereign Single Grain to name a few. They also have a bottling plant in East Kilbride in Scotland. Hunter Laing also established the Ardnahoe Distillery on Islay which was opened in 2018. First established in 2013 when the brothers Fred and Stewart of Douglas Laing & Co decided to split the company assets and operate their own independent bottling operations.
Kill Devil is a single cask rum created by Hunter Laing. The rum is sourced from the Caribbean and further afield, shipped to Scotland and bottled by hand. In the 17th and 18th centuries, islanders referred to their locally made distillates as Kill Devil. Whilst today many of the old superstitions have gone, the Caribbean is still the source of many exotic rums.
This Kill Devil rum has been matured for 14 years in a single cask after being produced in a column still in 2007. Travellers Distillery which is based in Belize, Central America was established in 1953 and specialises in molasses based rums.
Hand bottled at 67.3% abv only 188 bottles available worldwide.
Nose: Creamy espresso, orange blossom, freshly cut hay, toasted peanuts.
Palate: Dark caramel notes, summer pudding and big bold oaky notes.
Finish: Orchard fruits and salted caramel chocolate bars.
