The Samaroli company was originally founded by Silvano S Samaroli in 1968. He was one of the first dedicated independent bottlers to actively promote cask strength whisky, and is still one of the only companies to tout the beneficial effects of bottle ageing with the much-loved line on the rear labels: ‘Further matures in its bottle’. Through the 1980s Samaroli released dozens of bottlings which are now considered ‘legends’ and are fought over tooth and nail whenever they appear at auction. The artistry of the labels has also proved influential over the years with numerous bottlers taking inspiration from Samaroli’s elegant and artistic style. Silvano S Samaroli sadly passed away in February 2017. Samaroli’s wife, Maryse Accorsi Samaroli is currently supervising the release of his remaining stocks.
This single cask was distilled at the Glen Grant Distillery in 1998, it was aged in an ex bourbon Hogshead barrel for 23 years before being bottled at 49% ABV in 2021. Cask number 6440 only produced 319 bottles for world-wide distribution. Bottled with no chillfiltration and no colouring this whisky is a tribute to the arts reflected though Samaroli’s meticulous ageing techniques. Only one bottle available.
Nose: Spicy and dusty tips such as chopped pink pepper are the background to a reassuring nose that inspires protection, a range of floral scents alternating with fruit tones.
Palate: The only fear is that of not finding such a spirit anymore… Fortunately, the palate does not betray us, on the contrary, it welcomes us as if returning from an exciting day in her arms.
Finish: Pungent, with a classic rhythm full of solos… oregano, mint, raisins…
