Glen Elgin Aged 12 Years Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Chorlton Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml           ABV: 56.6%           Age: 12 Years Old         Country: Scotland

A relatively new Indie bottler with very interesting and colourful designs on the labels. Some fantastic spirit within the actual bottlings, it’s a range of whiskies that you cannot overlook, normally bottled undiluted, uncoloured, unchillfiltered, cask strength and a limited run, all leading to great reviews across the board.

The Glen Elgin Distillery is situated in the heart of Speyside approximately 3 miles south of Elgin. This distillery was the last distillery to be built during the boom years of the 1890s. The architect, Charles Doig, stated it would be the last one built in Speyside for 50 years. His prediction was remarkably accurate with Tormore being the next distillery built, in 1958. The original site was chosen for its water source and close proximity to the railway line. Unfortunately the water source proved unreliable and permission for a railway siding was refused. Until the 1950s the distillery was entirely operated and lit by paraffin. All machinery was driven by a paraffin engine and a water turbine. The distillery is owned by Diageo with the spirit still being a key component of White Horse blended whisky, exported to over 200 countries worldwide.

This single malt whisky was distilled on the 21st April 2009 at the Glen Elgin distillery before being placed in a single ex-Bourbon Hogshead and left to mature for 12 years. It was bottled at 56.6% abv with only 287 bottles being produced for worldwide enjoyment.
