Murray McDavid are highly respected in the Scotch whisky industry, mainly for independently bottling whisky after selecting and ageing the spirit in high quality oak casks. Established in 1996 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Gordon Wright at the closed site of the Coleburn distillery in Speyside, Scotland.  They are also known for the purchase of the closed Bruichladdich Distillery in 2000 and reopening this dormant distillery. They did such a good job of restoring production it was sold to Remy Cointreau in 2012 with a considerable profit.

This independent bottling by Murray McDavid has been initially matured in three 250 litre refill ex-Bourbon Hogsheads for no less than 11 years and 2 months. It was then finished in two 1st FillMadeira Barriques for no less than 9 months. After being matured for no less than 12 years in high quality oak casks it was bottled at 46% ABV as part of the Murray McDavid Select Grain limited release series. Only 839 bottles were produced for worldwide distribution.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Toasted walnuts, citrus, floral, salted butter and sweet oak.

Taste: Honey sweetness, toasted wholemeal bread, dried fruits, cereals and porridge oats.

Finish: Citrus, red berries and exotic spices.

About The Distillery

Built by William Grants & Sons, the owners of Glenfiddich and The Balvenie to produce Grants whisky and produce grain whisky for the blends in the portfolio. Girvan Distillery is a large distillery mainly uses Coffey stills to produce spirit. It is also the site of the Ladyburn distillery which was open from 1965 to 1975. Today the site is home to the Ailsa Bay Distillery and Hendricks Gin plant.
