The Elements of Islay are a range of iconic, small-batch, expertly sourced independently bottled whiskies. The Limited Edition range consists of single malt bottlings from individual Islay distilleries identified with periodic symbols and batch numbers (Lp1, Ar2, and so on). They are bottled either as single casks or as small batches between 3 and 20 carefully selected casks. These expressions celebrate the distilleries’ individual character while presenting a balanced and characterful whisky bottled at full proof.
This 14th Elements of Islay bottling from Caol Ila is a marriage of distillates from 2012, 2013 and 2015 all aged in ex-Oloroso Sherry butts and American oak Hogsheads. Bottled unchillfiltered at 50.1% ABV. Caol Ila is renowned for its light, flinty style, which adds elegance to the layers of smoke and strong coastal notes that are its trademark. These flavours combine with red fruits to create a wonderful smokey fruity whisky.
Nose: Freshly shucked oysters, dried dark fruits, campfire smoke, malted barley sweetness and soft baking spices.
Palate: Creamy smoke with hints of barrel char, minerality, sea salt and dried dark fruits with summer berries and white pepper.
Finish: Long and smoky, hints of dried fruits, dark chocolate, campfire smoke and soft peppery spice.
