The Elements of Islay are a range of iconic, small-batch, expertly sourced independently bottled whiskies. The Limited Edition range consists of single malt bottlings from individual Islay distilleries identified with periodic symbols and batch numbers (Lp1, Ar2, and so on). They are bottled either as single casks or as small batches between 3 and 20 carefully selected casks. These expressions celebrate the distilleries’ individual character while presenting a balanced and characterful whisky bottled at full proof.
Elements of Islay mainly release single malts in limited batches and use elemental symbols to get you thinking about which distillery they came from. They have also decided to create a more consistent approach to bottling their whisky and have created this blended malt which is full of Islay goodness.
Cask Edit is part of the Elements Of Islay series from Speciality Drinks. This expression is an ongoing release and accompanies the growing series. Smoke driven Islay spirit is given time in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks to mature and flavour for a period of time, this allows the spirit to create a smoky whisky with of layers of fruit and nuts, buttery pastry, and roasted coffee to the softly smoky malt at the core. Bottled at 46% ABV and bottled in a 700ml bottle.
Nose: Toasted crushed nuts, ripe orchard fruits and blonde toffee, creamy vanilla and soft notes of peat smoke is extremely well integrated.
Palate: Plenty going on here, Coffee beans, dark chocolate, toasted almonds, vanilla pods, bonfire smoke, freshly baked brioche buns and sweet vanilla toffee.
Finish: Long with lingering smoke and toffee sweetness, plenty of fresh fruity notes and soft spices.
