The Elements of Islay are a range of iconic, small-batch, expertly sourced independently bottled whiskies. The Limited Edition range consists of single malt bottlings from individual Islay distilleries identified with periodic symbols and batch numbers (Lp1, Ar2, and so on). They are bottled either as single casks or as small batches between 3 and 20 carefully selected casks. These expressions celebrate the distilleries’ individual character while presenting a balanced and characterful whisky bottled at full proof.
This 7th Elements of Islay bottling , the main component of the Br7 release comes from 3 Sherry hogsheads, and the marriage of 1 ex-Bourbon barrel. Distilled in 2001, this Bruichladdich is beginning to show its age, as intense fruits and oaky vanilla notes intertwine.
Nose: Blue cheese and dates with a glass of cream sherry to start, with a second course of cinder toffee sprinkled with boozy raisins. Notes of Teurgoule – Normandy-style rice pudding – slowly build.
Palate: Dried fruits and dark chocolate mingle with honeycomb and clotted cream. A touch of sea salt adds a savoury element to this rich and heavy malt.
Finish: Rum-soaked fruit cake leads, making for a long and warming finish which slowly fades into notes of toffee sauce.
