2021 Release
The Bladnoch distillery was originally established in 1817 by brothers John and Thomas McClelland. It was licensed in 1825 and the spirit was made by using barley grown in the surrounding fields. The distillery has not had an easy life with many owners passing through the distillery over the next 100 years. It was in 2014 when the distillery was placed into receivership that Australian Entrepreneur David Prior decided to purchase the distillery with the deal going through in 2015. A complete refurbishment then took place and brought the distilleries production back online. Casks that have sat in the warehouses for many years maturing are now being used to create some very unique and memorable whiskies.
Today, under the auspices of Australian owner David Prior, Bladnoch produces a light, grassy and malty Lowland-style malt. The whisky being released from the distillery at the current moment is from the Raymond Armstrong era when a more delicate style was introduced with some peated malt also being used in production.
The Bladnoch 19 years old has spent its life maturing in PX Sherry barrels before being bottled at 46.7% abv and no colouring or chill-filtration has been used.
Nose: Tropical fruits, aniseed spic, with hints of caramel and citrus.
