It’s not often a long kept secret is revealed in the world of single malt whisky, but the BenRiach Speyside distillery is a true discovery. Since 1898, the BenRiach distillery has very quietly been producing quality single malt scotch whisky, which has only ever been enjoyed in very small quantities, by a few discerning individuals who have been fortunate enough to come by a bottle. This was until now, where the distillery is focused on larger production and there’s more of a focus on consistency and the core range. Single malts from BenRiach have been called “perfection”, faultless” and “astounding” in Jim Murray’s 2014 Whisky Bible. With the BenRiach Heart of Speyside taking out Gold in the 2019 “Icons of Whisky” “World Whisky Awards”. Watch this space, there’s more awards to come from this Speyside distillery.

Located in the Heart of Speyside,  just south of Elgin, this distillery is now owned by Brown-Forman who are one of the largest spirit producers in the world and have the likes of Jack Daniels and GlenDronach in their portfolio of distillery ownership. The casks maturing at BenRiach contain the highest quality whisky, which have taken the industry experts by surprise due to their complexity and subtlety.

Some are no less than outstanding examples of the art of whisky production. This whisky stock, reflecting the skill, knowledge and experience that has gone into the making of BenRiach is testimony to the many years stretching back to the 19th century during which the distillery built its reputation. Few distilleries in Scotland hold such a history and few today can have quite such an exciting future.

Expect a beautiful spice which will stimulate the taste buds, sweet sherry, summer berries, cinnamon. Some peated and some unpeated and some in between. These whiskies are exotic and very unique in appearance and flavour. They are extremely worth exploring and perhaps collecting with limited edition bottles being released into the market yearly.

BenRiach Distillery have developed a reputation for innovative maturation, using a diverse mix of cask types.

This has been bottled at a higher alcohol strength and was distilled from peated malted barley at 35ppm. Taking the fruity flavours of BenRiach and matching them with the smoky essence of peated malted barley has created one delicious whisky.
