This whisky has been produced at the Adnams Distillery or better known as Adnams Brewery in Southwold, Suffolk, England. One of the most eco-conscious distilleries in the U.K., you may have your smile turned into a shocked expression, it’s also one of the most haunted! All the spirits produced at the distillery are based on locally-grown, East Anglian malted cereals, from which they brew a “distillery wash” – basically an un-hopped beer – using their unique two-strain brewing yeast, that has been in use for over 70 years.
Adnams Rye Malt is made using Rye grown just a mile away from the distillery in Southwold on Jonothan Adnams’ farm, and locally grown malted barley. Distilled as a single, small batch using a copper pot still before being matured in New French Oak barrels and being bottled at 47% ABV.
Nose: Sweet and spicy – vanilla and sticky toffee meet clove, cinnamon and baking spices with hints of citrus peel.
Palate: The Rye character comes through more here, mixed with continued dried fruit sweetness and honey.
Finish: Shorter finish, elements of coffee and dark chocolate.
