Levantine Hill merges two vineyards in the heart of the Yarra valley. The first is one of the highest hills on the Yarra valley floor, the other is on the banks of the Yarra River and alongside the Maroondah Highway Levantine Hill exists for one reason. To create handcrafted wines of uncompromised quality in the traditional French style. That’s why they do everything the traditional way, by hand. To make wine you require a great winemaker. Levantine have called upon the expertise of Paul Bridgemen, one of Australia’s best. This is the start of Levantine Hill’s quest for perfection.
The Family Paddocks are the iconic heart of the Levantine Hill Winery. After transforming what was once just a steep, rocky hill into the perfect place to grow grapes, Elias Jreissati named each of the blocks of vines after the people closest to his heart. Colleen’s Paddock is named after his wife and the wine here is inspired by Grand Cru wines of Burgundy and First Growths of Bordeaux. These wines are the best of the best and are limited in bottle numbers produced.
The Colleen’s Paddock Pinot Noir is made in traditional French style, offering a finely tuned balance of fruit and savoury characteristics. It features a restrained, brooding and beguiling nose, combining lightness with richness and density with great length to deliver real persistence and flavour. The judicious inclusion of grape stalks into select vats during fermentation gives the wine an aromatic lift and complexity plus an additional sweep of tannin to the palate structure and finish. It can be aged for 15 years or more – if you can wait that long.
