Produced by the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky and owned by the Sazerac Company this distillery is very well known around the world. It is however known by many different names, George T. Stagg Distillery and Old Fire Copper Distillery to name a couple.
It is known that this distillery was producing spirit back in 1805 and a distillery called Burks Distillery is in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest operating bourbon distillery. During prohibition the distillery was allowed to stay open to produce products for ‘medical purposes’.
The distillery produces around 10,000,000 litres of spirit each year which is used mainly to create its signature spirit Buffalo Trace Kentucky Bourbon.
This Bourbon is a wheated Bourbon which allows for the distiller to take away the rye component and replace it with wheat given the product an added smoothness. IT is said that drinking Weller 12 Years Old is as close you can come to tasting Pappy van Winkle with out breaking the bank.
Here is what award winning author Jim Murray has to say about this bourbon – Sheer quality. And an enormous leap in complexity and grace from the 7yo. Scored it 93 points in the 2018 Whisky Bible.
It was awarded Double Gold Medal at the 2018 New York International Spirits Competition – Best Straight Bourbon
2020 Silver Medal – San Francisco World Spirits Competition
2020 Silver Medal – World Whiskies Awards
“The deep bronze colour beautifully reflects the light…high-spirited, lusciously toasty, and animated bouquet that has top-notch Bourbon written all over it; dry, complex, and toasty palate.” – Paul Pacult’s Spirit Journal
Smooth and easy drinking but bursting with flavour.
Nose: Toasted bread, blackberry jam, slightly leathery with vanilla and oak.
