This Irish single pot still whiskey is the first to ever be finished in Bordeaux wine casks from France. Using these casks to mature the whiskey is quite significant as Château Léoville Barton was originally started by Irish immigrants into France and to this day is still run by descendants of the original families. A wonderful way to enjoy a celebration of Irish heritage.
The whisky is first matured in ex-Oloroso Sherry casks, American Oak Virgin casks and ex-Bourbon casks. It’s after this maturation the whiskey is then finished in the ex-Château Léoville Barton Bordeaux wine casks for 12 to 24 months. This give the whiskey a terrific uplift of berries, redcurrants and citrus.
Nose: Cranachan, orchard fruits and ginger snap biscuits.
Taste: Granny Smith toffee apples combines with lemon meringue and redcurrants. The spice on the palate is superb.
Finish: The spice lingers with berries and toasted oats.
